Offering a Range of 'Tea'-rrific Tea
I remember when T2 first opened it Auckland, New Zealand. It must have been around 2008 when the little T2 corner store in the Botany Town Centre opened. I knew immediately that it would be a winner with a range of products and tea to choose from. Of course, it did have a price tag but so does all loose tea!
T2 took a little while to arrive in Perth. It sort of snuck in on a stealth plane as it suddenly sprang up in some shopping centres. To my excitement, there was a greater selections of tea than there was ever before.
Back in the "heyday" there was a range of well known loose teas with a large selection of herbal teas. Today you have a huge selection of all sorts of tea.
According to Maryanne Shearer, a co-founder of T2, she wanted to 'break the rules on tea!' Hence, you will not only find your normal English Breakfast or Green Tea, but you will also find a range of fruit, herb and blacks all packed with flavour.
T2 shops have 3 distinctive designs. There are 6 stores through Perth, with my two favourites stores (because they are closer) being Karrinyup and Joondalup.
According to Maryanne Shearer 'customers looking for a fresh but high-end retail experience welcomed the shops' slick, black fittings that contrast with the popping bright colours of the product. And no advertising – they relied on the word of mouth of loyal customers.' Karrinyup has a black exterior with bright colors through the window while Joodalup has a more wooden exterior.
However, T2 has created a tasting section where you are able to taste the tea before purchasing. This was probably how I purchased "New York Breakfast" a black tea with hints of pancakes. Can you imagine having pancakes every morning and not worrying about the waist line? That is a real winner.
Tea and Jam go together like a Horse and Carriage!
T2 is about embarking on the 'wild side' and challenging all concepts when it comes to tea. Apart from challenging the hot and cold aspect, flavours are confronting, to give the tea lover a unique experience. Black tea has been challenged with flavours such as toffee, maple syrup, and vanilla (only to name my top 3 favourites). Green tea has been challenged with hints of fruit. And fruit tea has been challenged by mixing fruits to give one a very crisp and refreshing flavour.
Furthermore, with a range of products from brewing options to storage solutions, you can be assured that you won't leave the shop without the answer to having a perfect cup of tea - EVERYTIME!
My all time favourite product would have to be my tall mug with strainer and top/coaster. The uniqueness of this design astounds me. The top has been designed so that the tea remains hot while it brews turning into a coaster when you've reached your ideal strength. The strainer fits perfectly on top of the mug so that no leaves escape into your final creation.
Admittedly, T2 can be a little pricey when you compare it to everyday tea bags. However, that is like comparing fresh apples to canned apples. It might be tea, however there is no chance of ever finding flavour that you can see in your tea.
Of course I would not just take my word for it. If I were you, I would visit one of the 6 stores and take the taste test yourself. I have an inkling that you may just find your experience 'tea'riffically' filled with flavour, with at least one option finding itself in your pantry.
