Haven of Style on the Bayside
Sylvia's Restaurant and Wine Bar is the new name for the popular restaurant at Shangri-La Gardens Motel & Function centre at Wynnum West on Brisbane's Bayside. The name may have changed but it has still maintained its top class food and personalised service that comes from 60 years operation and being independently managed throughout that time.

An oasis in Brisbane's eastern suburbs and close to the beautiful Moreton Bay, Sylvia's Restaurant and Wine Bar is a sanctuary of fine dining set in a sumptuous setting that bellies the expectation of its suburban location. The restaurants intimacy is enhanced by the illuminated tree at its centerpiece, creating a lovely ambience for casual dining or for a special occasion.
Head Chef Paul Field creates menu's inspired from his travels abroad, together with his classical French teaching, to offer a selection that mixes French tradition with modern Australian cuisine.
Paul provides regular changes to his menu reflecting seasonal and available produce. From the winter menu you can choose from the slow cooked lamb shank accompanied by root vegetables, potato croquette and glazed with a port and sage sauce; or roast duck complimented with orange sauce, wilted spinach and potato bake. For the fish lover there is wild caught, pale ale battered barramundi served with salad and specially cut fat chips with aioli. I succumbed to the delicious beef cheek with homemade gnocchi, green beans and goat's cheese.

The restaurant has a select wine list ranging from a Babich Black Label Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand to a Sevenhill Inigo Merlot from South Australia.
No gourmet meal is totally complete without dessert and there are plenty to tempt the palate ranging from the popular Crème Brulee together with kirsch cherries or the Belgian chocolate pudding that is totally flourless accompanied, for those that dare, with double cream. And to top it off there is the choice of affogato on its own or as a short black with vanilla ice cream. New to the menu is Chef Gavin's delicious tiramisu…a dessert to die for as I can testify!
A new lounge area has been created adjacent to the bar creating cosy alcoves for a more casual drink with friends or family. A new range of tasty bar snacks has been introduced for those who want more casual food in 'The Nook'.
Sylvia's Restaurant and Wine Bar is adjacent to the reception area of Shangri-La Gardens. It's just a few minutes from the Wynnum Road exit of the Gateway Motorway just before the Wynnum Plaza shopping centre. As you approach from the city it's to the right off Plaza Street at 1969 Wynnum Road in Wynnum West.
There is plenty of free parking making it an attractive feature compared to the prices you would pay in Brisbane's CBD.
The restaurant is open Monday to Saturday from 5:30 pm with bookings recommended by calling (07) 3308 5100. Meals are affordable with the main course menu between $30-$34 and desserts from $8 - $14.
The restaurant is a great setting for a casual or special evening out without having to travel into the City. To make a complete weekend the Shangri-La Gardens has a selection of 4 star rooms fitted with sumptuous furnishings and quality bed-linen.
