The Stirling Players continue its stellar 2024 season with Sylvia - A.R. Gurney's romantic comedy about a dog that is sure to tug at your heartstrings! Tickets are now on sale.
When A R Gurney's comedy was first produced off-Broadway at the Manhattan Theatre Club in 1995, it proved a great success and ran for 167 performances with Sarah Jessica Parker in the lead role.

The upcoming Stirling Players production is directed by Erik Strauts, who previously directed
Sylvia for Blackwood Players in 2007. Strauts regards
Sylvia as "... a funny, feel-good piece.” He stresses that this is quite different from
The Goat or Who is Sylvia?, Edward Albee's ruthless and provocative 2002 play.
Dora Stamos {Sylvia} and Anita Canala {Kate}
Sylvia is set in the present time in a New York apartment and nearby Central Park.
Greg is a middle-aged finance executive whose career is stalling. His wife Meg’s career in education is taking off, now that the adult kids have left home. They are in danger of drifting apart.
Unexpectedly, a lively character trots into their lives, and the dynamics of the household start to change ...

Strauts has already directed six plays for the Stirling Players, the most recent being
Mr Bailey's Minder in 2011, and
Female of the Species, in 2010, which won the Adelaide Theatre Guide's Best Comedy (Amateur) award.
The talented cast includes Dora Stamo as Sylvia, Scott Battersby as Greg, Anita Canala as Kate, Ashleigh Merriel as Phyllis, Nathan Brown as Tom and Stephanie Russell as Leslie.
