Most of us have an Event Cinema or a Hoyts near us. These are often our first choices when we want to see a film, largely because they offer us all the movies we could want at the most convenient times. But are they the cheapest option?

An adult ticket at Event Cinemas costs $18, while at Hoyts you will be paying $18.50 to see a movie. These prices don't even reflect the cost of 3D films. However, you might not have to pay that much next time. Perhaps there is a smaller venue close to home that offers better prices and is showing just the movie you want to see.

The following is a list of what I think are the cheapest cinemas around Sydney (hopefully near you!). Do you know of any others?

Hornsby Odeon
If you live in Hornsby, you will find the Hornsby Odeon offers very good value movie tickets, with adult passes costing only $12. On Tuesdays, tickets cost $7, regardless of whether you are an adult, child, pensioner, senior or student. This cinema can be found on the Pacific Highway, opposite Hornsby Station.

Glenbrook Cinema
In Glenbrook, on the corner of Ross Street and the Great Western Highway (behind the Welcome Wall), you will find Glenbrook Cinema. This venue offers $11 movie tickets for all films and all sessions.

Cronulla Cinema
Cronulla Cinema is another venue that offers tickets at cheaper prices that the two big chains. Here, adult tickets cost $15.50 ($10 on Tuesdays). This cinema is located at 2-6 Cronulla Street,

Ritz Cinema
This cinema is located at 45 St Pauls Street in Randwick. Tickets cost $13.00, with Cheap Tuesday prices set at $8 for all ages.

Dumaresq Street Cinema
I think Dumaresq Street Cinema takes the title of cheapest cinema, offering $6 tickets for all movies, everyday. This cinema is located on the corner of Dumaresq Street and Hurley Street in Campbelltown.

There seems to be some cheaper options all around Sydney, where you can view the latest releases without coughing up too much cash. But if can't get to any of these cinemas, why not try these strategies for getting cheap tickets at the cinemas near you..

The Odeon in Hornsby is a great local cinema. We love it. You can also get vouchers on their website and get $7 tickets on other days. The food is also great and not expensive ($3 for a small popcorn)
