Apart from the Sydney Fish Markets of course. Why go deep sea fishing when quality fish is so accessible? What is your ideal fish? My fish should not have too many bones in it. Fish is easy to cook, however it needs to have a bit of flavour and spice to it. The spices (or other condiments used) should not overpower the fish.

We are spoilt for choice when it comes to eating the most delicious fish: from your simple fish to whiting fillets and even smoked salmon. For the latter - speaking of which, the Japanese do a pretty amazing job in serving Sydney some fresh sashimi pieces comprising of both raw salmon and raw tuna.

York Street brings a bit of food magic to many Sydneysiders lips, and one of Sydney's best kept take-away secrets may no longer be so secret anymore. Welcome to Nazimi. Decent and creative fish. Just go for any fish dish here and you will be delighted. You will find that authentic Japanese taste in all of their food offerings.

It is a shame that Sydney does not have a Harrod's (you can't beat London's salmon) however the fish at the various Food Halls at David Jones (city and Bondi Junction) are perhaps some of the freshest. It is not easy to compete with the high standards that their food halls commit to in the seafood department.

Otherwise, as the name implies, Fish on Fire in Glebe serves some really amazing fish. It would be easy to dub Glebe as the fish and chips capital of Sydney after coming to this establishment. Beautiful and rather filling snapper. The prices are so dirt cheap. If you are a Catholic, you would want every Friday to be a 'Good Friday' after tasting the grilled fish varieties here.
