Sydney might conjure up images of a bustling city, or perhaps of some of Australia's most well-known beaches, but thinking of Sydney doesn't usually get you thinking about life on the farm. You can go for a short drive, or stick closer to the city centre, and you'll be able to find fun kids activities where they can get a hands on farm experience with plenty of animals. Take a look at some of the ones we've rounded up, and let us know what you think, because we're looking for Sydney's best children's farm.

Kindifarm know how to make things easy for you, and there are plenty of places you might have seen their animals. They are a mobile farm, so they can come wherever you want them, and are a popular choice for birthday parties. You supply the location and they bring the animals for petting and feeding. You might have also come across Kindifarm at a fair or fete, because they also do a whole range of events.

If you don't mind a longer drive then you might enjoy the Golden Ridge Animal Farm, they're about a 40 minute drive out of Sydney. There are planned activities including holding the baby animals, walking round the farm, feeding sheep and goats, milking cows, and pony rides. When you finish up at around 12:30 you'll also get to find somewhere nice to sit down and have a picnic, so make sure you bring some tasty food from home. Golden Ridge also do birthday parties, and if you're not up for the drive their mobile farm can come to you.

Calmsley Hill have a full day of activities at their farm. You can do all of the activities mentioned at Golden Ridge, but Calmsley Hill also throw in some shows like the stock whips, working dogs, and sheep shearing. If your child is a keen farmer they might want to go on a tractor ride to get a look around the farm. They also have some great educational programs for school groups.

Closer to home you'll find some fury animals hanging out at the Entertainment Quarter in Moore Park. They may not have the full farm experience, but they're right in the middle of the city, and every Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday you can visit them for just $5. There are lots of other fun activities for the kids as well as the animals, so you can find lots to do. The animals are brought in by Bowral Farmyard Friends, who also have a mobile farm that will come to your special events.

So let us know where you think you can find the best children's farm experience in Sydney. You might like the idea of an easy mobile option, or prefer the drive that brings the real farm life experience. We want your opinions on the best barnyard animals in town.

Mowbray Park is great for a day visit or farm stay, about an hour's drive south of Sydney. Day visit package includes lunch. We started with a tractor ride to meet, feed and pet the nursery animals and learn to milk a cow. We also tried our hands at making damper around a campfire and tasing billy tea. After lunch, we learnt how to crack a stock whip then walked to an open field to learn how to throw boomerangs. You can also opt to go for pony rides, horse riding or canoeing.

Calmsley Hill is fantastic, really lovely and relaxing and very well setup. Its well worth the trip. Sadly Golden Ridge is incredibly run down - one look at the fence along the road will give you a clear indication of whats inside. Staff were grumpy and unengaging (what does it say when the animals are happier than the workers to see the visitors).
