While autumn can mean rain puddles and crunchy brown leaves, this isn't all that autumn in Sydney has to offer. Autumn can be a strange season, its on the cusp of winter but still trying to hang on to summer, but it is also a time when Sydney has a special spring in its step. There are two big festivities that can't be looked past when autumn comes to down. First there is the fun wind down to Sydney's spectacular Mardi Gras celebrations, a great time to dress up, or undress in some occasions. The other big event is one where the fashions are quite a bit different, the Sydney Carnival . Where the kids are concerned the piles of showbags and brightly lit up rides of the Sydney Royal Easter Show make autumn extra special. It may seem like a bit of an excuse to just spend a lot of money, but it is pretty easy to have a great time at the show. Yes you might come home with bags filled with fake dog poo and whoopee cushions, but you'll also get a chance to have fun on the rides, test your skills on the side shows, and see some great animals on display.

Autumn also means art is in the air, because it is time for one of Australia's biggest art events, the Archibald Prize . To those outside of Sydney this might just represent a competition, but in Sydney you'll generally be able to find workshops, lectures, parties, lunches, and more, all celebrating art.
