Take your taste buds on a culinary world tour

The Sydney World Rice Festival is an exciting two-day culinary and cultural extravaganza coming to Tumbalong Park on the weekend of the 7 and 8 October 2017.

Entry is FREE and all are welcome to enjoy an amazing array of interactive activities, special cultural events, and of course, tantalising sweet and savoury rice dishes from all corners of the globe!

From east to west, rice is much more than sustenance - it is an integral part of a diverse range of cultures and symbolically used in ceremonies of birth, adulthood, marriage and death. There are many untold and interesting stories about rice culture around the world and the World Rice Festival aims to showcase these fascinating rituals to the Australian public in a fun and engaging festival atmosphere.

Over two fun-filled days, you and your family and friends are invited to discover some of the world's great rice cultures and sample over 100 famous rice dishes, snacks and beverages from 10 vibrant countries. It will be the ultimate culinary adventure with more than 20 pop-up food stalls and food trucks offering popular and unique rice-based dishes, including appetisers, main meals, desserts and beverages.

The vast menu includes yakionigiri (charcoal-grilled rice triangles), wagyu sukiyaki rice balls, Egyptian street food, South-American grilled barbecue with arroz verde (Argentinian green rice), Indonesian beef rendang, award-winning paella, American-Filipino fusion longanisa rice burger, Filipino BBQ skewers, poke (Hawaiian sushi salad), arancini balls, Vietnamese street food (including pho), Japanese pastries, Italian popsicles (including specially-crafted rice flavours), and lots more.

Vendor highlights include Tsuru Food Truck (Japanese), El Qahirah (Egyptian), and Washoku Lovers partnering with chef Takumi Wakano of Shiki Japanese Restaurant, Sakura On Wheelz, Mate Burger, Despana, and Mama Linh's.

You can also chill out in the beer garden with the Asahi pop-up bar or a traditional sake (Japanese rice wine).

Don't forget to check out the enlightening cooking demonstrations of rice-based dishes, desserts and beverages. Discover how to make temari sushi (rice balls) and make sure to catch origami artist Midori Furze! You are sure to be inspired by how versatile and nutritious this staple food is!

There will also be cultural entertainment to enjoy on the day, a rice produce showcase by Thai Trade, a DJ will be spinning great tracks all weekend and SunRice, a proud sponsor of the Sydney World Rice Festival, will also hand out free giveaways and run a competition on the Facebook page.

More than 20,000 festival-goers are expected to attend this spectacular FREE festival in Sydney. Mark it in your calendar now!
