Although it was a rather unpleasant frosty night in Sydney on Friday, and I would have rather been wrapped in a blanket with my baby, my partner and I dragged ourselves out to a pre-arranged night at the Theatre.

The Wharf Theatres are part of the Sydney Theatre Company down on Hickson Road in Walsh Bay, around the corner from The Rocks.

It started with a drink at The Bar at the End of the Wharf which is perched at the end of a long boardwalk and it was well worth braving the cold for. Positives: although its a large venue, it was well heated, with wooden floors and lots of seating catering to both small and large groups. Beautiful views of the harbour. An excellent food and drink menu, although we only had time for one glass of pinot before the show. Oh and they also have an outside area which will be perfect for summer. P.S. they put on live music post show from time to time as well. No negatives from me.

The show we saw - Fools Island - was at one of the Wharf Theatres so just a short walk from the bar.

Not so positives: The children. I don't profess to be a lover of strangers' children, and I personally don't agree with taking young children to a play which they couldn't possibly understand (considering some of the explicit miming going on by the clown in the show) unless they are growing up in some sort of hippy cult of course.

Positives: There are lots of cool black and white photos down the boardwalk of famous (and not so famous) Australian actors in various stage performances. The Theatre was intimate, easy to view the stage, and a the play was able to hold my attention for the 70 mins. The actor did a great job of portraying both the lighter and darker sides of the human psyche.

Advice: check out the site , book a play and spend some time at the bar pre or post your session. You won't be disappointed.
