For many people the idea of running a marathon seems impossible, setting off on a 42km run without knowing how to approach it and how to training for it, is just to large an ask.
That's why joining a running group like Sydney Striders is the prefect solution to make it achievable. Sydney Striders has the TomTom Marathon Training Group (MTG) designed to take runners who can run 10kms (even though slowly), over a 20 week period and prepare them for running their first Marathon.
The latest TomTom MTG started last week with the objective of running the Canberra Marathon around the nation's capital and Lake Burley Griffin on 13th April 2014.
The group is coached and lead by a team of very experienced Marathon runners with a real passion for teaching how to build up to the big day. Runners are provided with a weekly running plan. Your long runs are done on Sunday, starting with 15kms. Over the coming weeks and months your runs will build up to 35kms by March 2014.
The TomTom MTG builds on the team atmosphere. We start by spending 1 - 3 hours with each other for 20 weeks; in fact, the group is encouraged to chat during the runs. Swapping tips on food, shoes, training and even solving the problems of the world!
One of the best aspects of doing the Striders MTG is that every Sunday we start at a different spot in Sydney – it is a great way to learn and see the different parts of our great city especially all the wonderful environment and bush areas that are still around.
