[ADVERT]The Arts & Crafts competition has been a feature of the annual Sydney Royal Easter Show . It attracts up to 4,500 entries across various categories, including paintings, sculptures, ceramics, photography, mosaic, oriental and calligraphy.

I had the opportunity to attend the Preview Evening of the Sydney Royal Arts and Crafts Show, held on Tuesday 3 April 2012. I've been to the Easter Show before, however, this was the first time that I've had a sneak preview of the winning works before they were publicly displayed.

On Tuesday evening, my friends and I joined the crowd to enter into the exhibition hall. The works are displayed in a big and spacious hall, so we could browse through the works in different categories at a comfortable pace. I was particularly drawn to the sub-categories of watercolour, marine, figurative and landscape under the painting section. The diversity of the selected works is impressive.


Most interestingly, when we feasted our eyes on cake decorating works, we were amazed at the level of creativity the cake decorators possessed – some cakes are designed in forms and shapes like high heel shoes, ferris wheels and gigantic macarons! Kids will certainly love seeing all these inventive cakes, and if you have sweet tooth, you probably won't be able to resist the temptation.

This is the biggest art and craft show that I have ever visited. The show is a delight, offering an uplifting and stimulating experience - no wonder the show always attracts a lot of visitors. Perhaps you can unleash your creativity by entering the competition next year - it would certainly be an interesting and exciting experience.
