If you have ever wondered what lies beneath those sails of the Opera house, you got your chance to find out for free. Every year, Opera house marks 1 day as an Open day and allows everyone to enter, explore and enjoy the place. This year on 24th of October, Opera house will remain open for visitors from 10 am to 5 pm.

The Opera House was designed by a Danish architect Jørn Utzon. One of the rooms in Opera house is dedicated to the architect and is named Utzon room. The room has a magnificent view of Sydney Harbour.

The main rooms under the sails of the Opera house are the concert hall and the opera theatre. The Opera theatre can seat 1500 people and is home for Australia's operas and ballets. The Concert Hall, with 2,678 seats, is the home of the Sydney Symphony and used by a large number of other concert presenters. It contains the Sydney Opera House Grand Organ, the largest mechanical tracker action organ in the world, with over 10,000 pipes. The sheer sight and the sound coming from the 10,000 pipes can leave the audience spellbound.

The smaller venues like the Drama Theatre, the Playhouse, and The Studio are located within the podium, beneath the Concert Hall. The building also houses a recording studio, cafes, restaurants and bars and retail outlets,

This is a free event but registration is required to secure entrance. Owing to the huge turnout last year, this year visitors need to register the time when they will join the queue to enter Opera house.
