Model railways are so fascinating, even if you are not a model railway enthusiast! The intricate detail mastered in this type of exhibition is amazing.



This exhibition is the longest running model railway exhibition in Australia and is the largest in New South Wales. The layouts on display cover all scales and prototypes and come from all over Australia. This is a very diverse exhibition with high-quality exhibitions.



Over the three days, there will be thousands of people of all ages and interests who attend. There are also commercial stands and demonstration clinics. There will be more than 70 trade stands here.

There will also be exhibitions from organisations such as the Sydney Tramway Museum, Railway Transport Museum and the Australian Railway Historical Society.



For the children, there will be Thomas the Tank Engine rides during the event. AMRA NSW also runs its U-Drive for children at the bargain price of $1 for 3 minutes.

This is an annual event and exhibition and is held each Labour Day long weekend at the Whitlam Leisure Centre in Memorial Avenue Liverpool. This year, the three-day event will be on:

  • Saturday 29th September
  • Sunday 30th September
  • Monday 1st October

  • Modeling competition
  • Miniature products

  • [b]Open Modelling Exhibition[/b]
    The AMRA Open Modelling Competition is run each year in conjunction with the Sydney Model Railway Exhibition.

    The following are the categories that can go in this competition:

  • Scratchbuilt Locomotive
  • Scratchbuilt Rolling Stock
  • Scratchbuilt Lineside Structure
  • Kitbased/Kitbashed/Proprietary Modified Locomotive
  • Kitbased/Kitbashed/Proprietary Modified Rolling Stock
  • Kitbased/Kitbashed/Proprietary Modified Lineside Structure

  • The winner in each category will receive a prize of $50 and an engraved trophy.

    The second place winner in each category receives an award of $30.

    The third place winner in each category receives an award of $20.

    You can catch a train to Liverpool Station and from there you can get the free shuttle bus service to the exhibition. More information available here regarding public transport.
