Films ignite your emotions and imagination. Whether it be funny, sad, scary, dark, romantic, fantasy or just plain spellbinding, seeing films remains an activity we all enjoy. The 13th annual Sydney Latin American Film Festival (SLAFF) is on again starting 6 September until 15 September at the Dendy Opera Quays, Addison Road Picture House and PYT Fairfield. Once again, you can enjoy a special selection of contemporary Latin American cinema. There will be nine feature films, one documentary and a short film selection. If you enjoy these types of films, you also might like to attend the opening and closing night parties.

The festival opens with the Australian premiere of Spider Thieves. This film is based off a true story and not to be missed.



Anything Latin is usually accompanied by colour, music and the fanfare of a celebration. Don't miss the opening night fiesta at Cafe del Mar . Enjoy delicious food, drinks and no doubt you won't be able to resist being drawn to the beats of the Latino King of spin DJ Willie Sabor and friends. Get set for a night of great film, live music, percussions, food and drink!



Lots of talent in the festival program. See Retablo, a coming-of-age story that follows 14-year-old Segundo as he learns the traditional folk art of retablo-making. The film explores the weight of heritage, the boundaries of love and the burdens of family expectations.



See the first Venezuelan film to be part of the Cannes Critics' Week competition, La Familia. A film about life in Caracas through the eyes of a single father and the perils he faces with his son.



The up and coming Melbourne film graduate, Laura Mora's film Killing Jesus is a real-life revenge drama set in Medellín about her father's assassination and her quest to take revenge.



If you enjoy a laugh, then see Get the Weed. This film is a hilarious account on President José (Pepe) Muijca as takes on a secret mission to find fifty tonnes of cannabis to supply Uruguay.



Take a ride of suspense with A Crack in the Wall. You will be sitting on the edge of your seat transfixed by the beautiful Leonor. A Crack in the Wall will be accompanied by pre-screening drinks and food.



Families can enjoy Home Team about a 13-year old small-town soccer prodigy who rises from poverty with his soccer skill.



Bring your hanky for the screening of Tigers Are Not Afraid , the story of Estrella, an 11-year-old whose mother disappears leaving her to fend for herself on the street after she joins a gang.
