Give your Hen a send-off to remember
Press Pause on Your Maid of Honour Meltdown
Your best friend is getting married and you have been charged with the task of planning a Hen's event fitting for your bestie. Given as this is a once-in-a-lifetime event for your friend, you want to send her off with a bang, right?
Dancing on a bar top is not for the gravitationally challenged
Planning a Hen's Night extravaganza can be a daunting task, and certainly not for the fainthearted. But don't break out the brown paper bag just yet. It doesn't need to be all heart palpitations and hyperventilations, as I am here to get the ball rolling with a few fabulous ideas for your fabulous Hen.
If you're friend is a theme park fanatic there is no better way to kick off a hen's do than at Luna Park. With its iconic, and slightly maniacal, smiling face greeting you at the entrance you are guaranteed a good time here without breaking the bank.
Depending on the time of year you go, tickets start at $44.95 for unlimited rides or venture in after 6pm and you can get a smashing 2 for 1 deal: 2 unlimited ride entries for just $44.95 all year round. If there are some among the hen's brigade that are not too keen on roller coasters and the like then you can get an unlimited Coney Island pass for only $10, or a single ride pass also for $10.
Girls Picnic @ Gazebo
Indulge your sophisticated side at Gazebo's Girls Picnic
For your classy dame of a hen there can be no better afternoon tea than a Girls Picnic at Gazebo Wine Garden. Sit down to delicious canapes, sip on a glass of French champagne or minted lemonade and finish with decadent sweets with some of your finest gals. Sounds delightful? I think so, and your hen will too.
Held every Saturday and Sunday between 12pm and 3pm this afternoon delight is only $40 a pop. But be aware, bookings are essential and need to be made 48 hours in advance.
Picnic on the Harbour
Enjoy the view while munching on a delicious morsel
If a more DIY approach to afternoon tea is more your style then perhaps an afternoon picnic under the Harbour Bridge at Bradfield Park. With arresting views of our fine harbour this is an ideal place for a girly afternoon tea picnic.
You can bring along a couple of picnic blankets to rest your caboose on the lush grass or, if you prefer, set up on one of the picnic tables scattered about. You can always go to your nearest deli and pick up some fine foods for the occasion or if you're a bit of a wizz in the kitchen then go ahead and construct your own menu.
Trusty favourites that always go down a treat include a cheese platter, delicate triangle sandwiches, mini quiches and, of course, an assortment of sweets. So pack up your lovely mismatched crockery, put together your picnic hamper, grab a bottle of bubbly and take your hen down to lovely Bradfield Park.
With Sydney's love of food and the popularity of celebrity chef restaurants you will make your hen's night with a delightful dinner at Jamie's Italian Sydney on Pitt Street. This lovable chef has set up shop in Sydney and is serving up delicious Italian fare to appreciative crowds.
With dishes to please all your party members, from sharing-is-caring antipasti plates and planks, handmade pastas and tasty risottos to decadent desserts, Jamie's Italian Sydney is definitely the way to go. Dinner at Jamie's Italian is sure to put a smile on your hen's dial.
Although they are predominantly a walk-in only restaurant you can make bookings for tables of 6 or more in advance. However, these bookings are very limited and I advise you book a number of weeks in advance to secure your spot.
No Hen's extravaganza is complete without a cocktail or two, or more. And Sydney certainly has a plethora of beautiful cocktail bars to service your needs with some delicious and downright inventive cocktail concoctions.
Check out Merivale'sGin Garden for some (obviously) Gin-inspired cocktails including the devilishly named Satans Whiskers. Or head on over to the Hilton's stylish Zeta Bar for a deconstructed cocktail on the terrace. Or, if you really want to spoil your hen, book out a private VIP booth and party in style.
So now put that brown paper bag away and relax because planning the perfect Hen's event will now be a breeze with these fabulous suggestions.
