January is almost over, which means another holiday season has come and gone. Did you make any resolutions? Did I just hear an emphatic "No"? Well, I'm not one for resolutions either but I do try to start each new year with an adventure. This year it was a scenic helicopter flight with Sydney HeliTours.

Apart from it being one of those extremely hot January days, the whole experience was fantastic. I'll admit I was a little nervous before the flight because helicopters are not that big and I'm not one for small spaces. However, the staff at Sydney HeliTours are professional and settle any nerves with their safety talk and, this is important, they have not lost a helicopter yet. They have an enviable 100% safety record.

Our names were called and we were shown to a helicopter where our pilot was waiting. Another short safety briefing, a few questions and then we were shown how to get into the helicopter. Next, we were given headphones so we could hear the pilot throughout the flight, seatbelts were fastened and we took a deep breath. The pilot assuring us again we would be just fine.

Ok, so nerves were settled and it was time to take off for our thirty-minute adventure over Sydney Harbour, Northern Beaches and then down to Maroubra. All of Sydney's iconic sights - The Harbour Bridge, Opera House, Manly Beach, Bondi Beach - were in glamorous form. Our pilot pointed out a few highlights but generally, we were left to enjoy the scenery at our leisure.



One thing that surprised me was how smooth the flight was, I had expected more rattles and jerkiness but it was a pleasant experience, mainly due to the quality of the helicopter and our experienced pilot.

The view of Sydney is amazing from up high. We quickly settled in as the view took our breath away. At the end of the flight, I was ready to go up for another thirty minutes, all nerves had completely disappeared.



I was given this scenic flight as a gift (ticket for one) so I purchased another ticket and took my partner with me.
