Do or Do Not, there is no Try
If you haven't already noticed, this year there has been a huge demand for Science Fiction and Fantasy books, movies and television series. I for one, often let myself become mesmerised by books that take me on journeys across space. In the books, I can tantalise my imagination discovering supposedly uncolonised planets, parallel universes and extraterrestrial life. Human's crave escapism from the banal aspects of life and this type of genre offers a tremendous journey for your imagination.
The 2017 Sydney Freecon is a FREE ENTRY event for 'Ordinary' people who would like to meet other people and talk about the Ideas found in Science Fiction, Sci-Fi and Speculative Fiction.
This event features a series of local writers and a full program of hourly events across three days. There will be a display of 1 and 2 page Short Stories which can be read and judged by attendees. The highlight of the event will be a Paradox Auction Sale of donated SF&F and Horror Books and DVDs. At the auction, all items on the table are the same price. The prices may lower during the Freecon Auction, i.e. this ensures that all items will go for a 'fair' price, $12 to $0.50. The prices will be determined by the attendees rather than the organisers.
The intention of each three-hour block of the Freecon Program is to offer something of interest to readers of SF, Sci-Fi Viewers, published and emerging writers. It could be the one day of the year where you can freely talk about the ideas in Science Fiction with other people who will be interested in what you have to say. It is a 'Festival' without FACE PAINTING or School Dancers, its all about science fiction, fantasy, superhero fiction, science fantasy, horror and supernatural fiction including supernatural books. Attendees are invited to bring and donate their SF&F, clearing space for the SF&F that they buy at the Freecon.
The proceeds from this sale are the major source of funds for the event. There will be a Short SF&F Story competition with prize money. The competition will be down to the best dozen or so stories displayed for the duration of the Freecon. These short stories will be read and voted on by those attending the event.

There is an Author listing of the 350 books to hand, with more expected to be donated on the days of the Freecon, so it is a relatively big, concentrated Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror book sale.
