Sydney Flying Squadron (otherwise known as "the Squaddy") is the first place I visit for a Sunday afternoon/evening cool beer or wine. It has an unbeatable harbourside location in Milsons Point/Kirribilli. To celebrate I decided I would visit the club during the day and gather writing material.
Sydney Flying Squadron is located on McDougall St in Milsons Point. On one side of the club is the Ensemble Theatre, a fantastic theatre venue which has been around for over 50 years. On the other side of the club is Milson Park, another wonderful harbourside feature which is perfect for picnics and has a thriving community herb garden.
On this particular day, I entered the club from the park, through the back entrance. As I walked up the wooden stairs, I heard music and a bit of commotion. Intrigued, I emerged into the club to find a live jazz band and party, with a full dance floor!
Every second Wednesday of a month, the Sydney Jazz Club hosts a jazz afternoon at Sydney Flying Squadron. Dave Ferrier and The Dads of Trad were on this month, and boy were they great. Sydney Flying Squadron has a special jazz menu, with items such as BBQ scallops and king prawns and grilled tuna with soft poached egg and salad. With an admission entry of $10, it makes for a fun and interesting afternoon.
