Free Sydney Festival Opening Party in Parramatta
Sydney Festival celebrations in Parramatta will kick off on Friday night (January 9) in Centenary Square just outside Parramatta Town Hall. The family-friendly festivities will open from 6pm and boast a free night out with accompanying art, music and food.

The 'twilight get-together' musical lineup is bringing some the most relaxing and fun Australian sounds to Centenary Square, featuring Australian music legend Paul Kelly presenting The Merri Soul Sessions – a collaborative project including the likes of talented musicians Dan Sultan, Clairy Browne, Vika & Linda Bull and Kira Puru. The musical entertainment will also include the soul and hip-hop infused act Radical Son, Christine Salem (known for her politically aware lyrics and spiritual, trance-inducing performance), New York City DJ $mall ¢hange, the one man band extraordinaire Uptown Brown, Vintage Quartestra, the hip hop influenced brass band Hi-Tops Brass Band, and the Waratah Drumcorps. The artists will perform on a series of stages placed around Centenary Square – find the map and timetable here.

There will be food to eat in Civic Place, and attendees will be welcome to explore the Fire Garden in Darcy Lane, created by artist Mike Roberts. You can make a day of the event as well by visiting Parramatta and exploring Parramatta Park, shopping at the huge Westfields shopping centre, and enjoying the eateries that line Church Street.
