For a chance to roam through Sydney's veggie gardens, learn about crop swapping, drought-tolerant garden methods, win prizes, and more, pencil in the weekend of 21 and 22nd of March. And, get your ticket before they sell out.

Bouncing of the successful Blue Mountains Edible Garden Trail, the Sydney version makes an exciting debut this March 2020. The jam-packed not-for-profit weekend for green thumbs offers the opportunity to take a self-guided tour of participating gardens.

In all, there are over sixty private and community edible gardens across the council regions of North Sydney, Willoughby, the Northern Beaches, Hornsby, Lane Cove, Hunters Hill, Mosman, Kuring-Gai, Canada Bay, Parramatta, Ryde, Penrith and The Hills.

The mission of the team of volunteer coordinators is to encourage and inspire growing edible produce in urban gardens and public spaces across Sydney.

Co-founder, Laurie Green points out, "We want to celebrate the many ways that Sydney residents are creating food security, saving money and the environment, while enjoying the health benefits of home-grown fruit and vegetables"."If you've ever wondered just what's involved in growing your own food or are interested in finding out more about keeping chickens, growing in drought conditions, crop swapping, worm farms, and more, there'll be lots of local passionate gardeners ready to share their knowledge."

The trail will showcase sustainable practices such as mulching for water conservation, recycling and composting to increase soil fertility and reduce landfill, planting to encourage bees, home food production to increase food security, and organic growing techniques to reduce chemical use.

Some gardens will be holding free workshops (such as the wicking bed and compost workshops). Others will be selling seedlings, giving free seed saving and cooking demonstrations, offering crop swaps and more!

A further bonus is getting exercise, enjoying autumn (the season of harvest and mild weather) and connecting with the community and like-minded fans of gardening.

All profits from the event go back into the community in the form of grants to local schools and community groups to support edible gardens.
