The Sydney Conservatorium of Music hosted the spectacular 'Jazztastic' Sydney Con International Jazz Festival with a celebration of jazz with cutting edge Australian and International artists.

The one-day festival was nestled in the picturesque Royal Botanic Gardens, the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and boasted an exhilarating line-up of over 100 musicians, 4 International Acts, 4 National Acts, 4 Sydney Acts, 4 Bands of Tomorrow and 9 Masterclasses.

It was a rare treat for Sydneysiders and visitors alike to experience such a unique collaboration of musical talents, including Blue Note recording artist Greg Osby alongside prodigious Miami-based Tal Cohen and Perth heavy-weight Jamie Oehlers, Adelaide's luminary guitarist James Muller with potent British saxophonist Will Vinson and Sydney's profusely creative trumpeter Phil Slater - who played back-to-back across the awe-inspiring day.

Other highlights at the Festival included the performance of the newly formed Australian National Jazz Orchestra. The performance marked a debut for this newly formed Jazz Orchestra and they executed it with perfection. The performance featured two amazing soloists; Mat Jodrell- trumpet and Roger Manins- tenor saxophone.

Tigran Hamasyan-solo performance, took us on a soulful journey with his indisputable technical skills, Jim Black took us into the future of Jazz as well as to a place rarely travelled with his limitless technique and futuristic concepts, he was paired with bassist Christopher Hale and tenor saxophonist Julien Wilson.

The ten-piece powerhouse; Sydney Women's Jazz Collective presented premier performances of eight specifically commissioned works by Andrea Keller and local composing talents Jenna Cave, Glen Doig and Ellen Kirkwood.

The Festival was captivating with the powerful sounds and timbre from each performance. Each performance act created a whirlwind of emotions, with the combination of frequencies that made up the individual sounds - the colour of the toneā€¦it was without question an emotionally charged day of splendid jazz music!

It was certainly a spectacular Festival program that gave festival-goers the pleasure of experiencing some of Australia's and the world's best-known jazz musicians and composers!
