The Sydney Comedy Festival is one of the most anticipated and exciting annual Event in Sydney, so it is no wonder that this massive jocular event was kicked started in grand-style with the Sydney Comedy Festival Gala!
Sydney Opera House transformed into the 'house of laughs' with the Gala opening and we found the biggest laughs in the simple, smart quips with 14 acts from national and international comedians.
The two-and-a-half-hour evening drew out and was filled to the brim with much magic.
The dazzling line-up featured the funniest international stars, Australian legends and next-big-things in comedy and it was nothing short from great entertainment and laughs galore, as the evening catered to all tastes.
From perils of parenthood to self-deprecating wit, from dry feminism to scripted sketches, it was a delicious sampler of what to expect at this year's Sydney Comedy Festival at the opening Gala.
Sydney's biggest night of comedy was hosted by England's own hilarious Joe Lycett. He interjected and closed the event with spectacular unabashed off-the-humour. His jokes were effortless, he had willingness that formed a relationship with the audience and his talent was second to none!
Additionally, Ivan Aristeguieta, Tahir, Phil Wang, Georgie Carroll, Larry Dean, Charles Firth and James Schloeffel (The Chaser & Shovel), Mark Forward, Jamali Maddix, Sean McLoughlin, Lauren Pattinson, Tom Allen, Tom Ballard, Fern Brady, and Phill Jupitus all took the audience into the world of hysterics. The audience roared into laughter and the atmosphere was just amazing!
The five minutes per performance did not do justice and the audience was not ready to give up the love for these brilliant wordsmiths. This teaser of sublime entertainment only necessitated the need to attend the full performances throughout the Sydney Comedy Festival!
The evening had some shots that missed the mark with a couple of performances that did not really hit that spot, whilst most managed to cause laughter galore, hitting the bull's-eye and made the audience wanting moreā¦
As quoted by The Sun Herald "
The sails of Sydney Opera House were nearly blown clean off by the howling laughter." And this was absolutely true! The evening featured nothing but non-stop laughter and prepared us for what is yet to come at this year's Comedy Festival.
Sydney Comedy Festival will be held till 19 May 2019 at various venues throughout Sydney.
