It is, as I learnt recently, and you can celebrate the flavour and fire of this fruit at the Albion Hotel in Parramatta when they spring their chilli festival on your taste buds in September.
Enjoy sampling all things chilli, from chilli chocolate to chutneys, mild and wild sauces, and chilli cocktails. Hot and spicy is the order of the day when 30 chilli-themed vendors and international food trucks with fiery food specials take you on a blazing culinary journey. Wander between tents tasting, shopping, talking with exhibitors and hobnobbing with fellow chilli lovers. For non-chilli lovers, the Albion Restaurant will serve up its non-chilli menu.
The whole family is catered for at this event, even dogs are welcome. Eating competitions add some fun, including a free children's fruit challenge and a Seatonfire chilli chocolate challenge for those that dare (cold milk will be on hand to calm your palette should the chilli overwhelm you). The latter is $15 to enter with prizes that include a chilli hamper, bragging rights, media attention and an awesome trophy.
There's a lot of room and areas to move around in at this local Parramatta establishment with 3 fully-licensed bars and a beer garden. Douse the chilli fire with an icy cold drink as you chill and listen to some live music.
Kicking off at 11am and concluding at 5pm, this event is a great way to spend a Sunday and it supports charity in the process.
Entry is free, although for a gold donation per person, you can sample all the spicy stuff.
Parking is available onsite (address below) and in the surrounding streets, whilst Parramatta train station is about a 10minute walk away. So come on down and embrace the warm spring weather.
