Child friendly cafes that you need to know about
As a mother of 2 little boys under 5 and also a caffeine addict, I am always on a search for a decent child friendly café. I'm fussy, so I have a few prerequisites:

1. Kid friendly staff
2. Pram friendly
3. Kids menu
4. Kids activities
5. Cheap babycinos
6. Parking
7. Highchairs
8. Decent toilets with baby change table
9. No queuing
10. Excellent coffee for me!

We are a cafe based society in Sydney and as a parent I am mindful of my children's behaviour upsetting other customers at cafes. The following is a short list of my favourite child friendly cafes in Sydney, where I have always been made to feel most welcome - no matter how many dummy spits my toddlers perform.

Arthur's Cafe Baulkham Hills

Arthur's Café - Baulkham Hills

This super-duper child friendly café ticks all the boxes when it comes to a child friendly café. There is a dedicated room downstairs at the café for children and their parents – set up with fabulous toys and activities. Upstairs there is also a Thomas the Tank Engine play table and reading nook. Arthurs Café has been open less than a year but already the word is out there amongst parents that this is quite possibly the most kid friendly café north of the bridge, if not in the whole of Sydney.

Chicken & Fishhead - Beecroft

With a name like this, how can it not be child friendly? This is both café and children's emporium. Although small in size, the café serves fantastic kids meal and the adults will also be extremely happy with their food and perfectly brewed coffee. They have an area for little ones to play, as well as providing an awesome little lunch box for kids. After you have finished your meal, you can pop across the road to the playground next to the Beecroft train station and your little ones can have fun playing and train spotting.

Parramatta Park Cafe - child friendly cafe

Parramatta Park Café - Parramatta

This café meets all the needs of a child friendly café - it is located in a huge park, it welcomes families and it serves excellent coffee. Besides the location being lovely, the food is delicious and reasonably priced and the attention given to little ones is very welcome by weary parents. They serve one of the cutest babycinos in Sydney! After enjoying your meal, your little ones have quite a few acres to run wild in and if you are nature lovers, try spotting a bat or two (or maybe a thousand) in the trees throughout the park!

Bitton – Alexandria

Ah, you have to love a chef who has children. David Bitton has been serving gourmet children's fare at Bitton for many years now. His delightful French style café/grocer is oh so family friendly. David and his staff welcome children with open arms and there is a dedicated children's play area out the back of the café. Unlike other cafes in Alexandria, you can make a booking ... so no queuing! They are also open at 7.00am every day - so perfect for those of us who have kids that wake at the crack of dawn.

Little Rock Cafe Baulkham Hills Child Friendly Cafe

Little Rock Café - Baulkham Hills

Located right next to an enclosed playground in Stockland Mall, Little Rock Café has been welcoming families for many years. The service is faultless and parents can sit back and enjoy their caffeine fix in relative peace whilst their children are enclosed safely in the playground. They also have a fantastic selection of books for little ones to read whilst their parents are perusing the weekend papers.

Grandma's Little Bakery – Alexandria

Grandmas always make you feel good. They always bake the most delicious meals and sweet treats and they always make you feel welcome in that loving Nanna kind of way. So if you are in need of some of Grandma's TLC than head on down to Alexandria. Here you will find a café/bakery/foodstore with beautiful nourishing home made food. Your little ones are especially well catered for with both food and activities as there is a wee play area at the back for them. Their other store in Collector NSW is another family friendly cafe for you stop at when you are next driving down to Canberra or the snow. (Parking in Alexandria is a bit tricky, especially during the week).

Next time you are in need of a caffeine fix and you have your little ones in tow, why not check out one of the above cafes and enjoy a wee moment of peace and quiet. You will all be welcome, well nourished and well looked after.
