If you ever have time to spare between flights at Sydney Airport International Terminal (T1), be sure to head up to the Observation Deck for some fresh air and a fantastic view back over Sydney city itself. Or maybe if you're looking for a romantic spot to farewell a loved one before their flight, this is definitely the place to come for a quiet moment before parting ways.
On a recent transfer from Sydney Domestic Airport Terminal (T3) to Sydney International Airport Terminal (T1), I was wandering around with time to spare, when a small sign stating Observation Deck caught my eye. I followed the arrow which lead from outside Departures "Check In C" to The Terrace Cafe, Bar and Bistro (open daily from 5am - 11pm) and took the lift way up to Level 4's Observation Deck.
Up on the Observation Deck, there were no less than six telescopes available for spying on planes and general happenings around the Sydney International Airport Terminal (T1), which would be a perfect way to keep curious children entertained and moving before a long haul flight. Although I visited in the morning, there was also a bar, which would be an excellent place for a pre-flight drink with a view at night.
After a sufficient bird's eye view around the airport, I dragged myself away from the peaceful Observation Deck and headed back down the lift to The Terrace Cafe, Bar and Bistro for a quick latte in the sun before joining the dreaded flight check in queue. I think the Observation Deck is Sydney International Airport Terminal's best kept secret, so make sure you don't miss out next time you're dropping someone off or heading off somewhere yourself.
