Switch Lifestyle Bar is a chain restaurant with branches in Watergardens, Knox City, Fountain Gate etc. The one in Watergardens is placed in the restaurant strip that is part of the space dedicated to making the walk from Watergardens station into a community area. There's outdoor seating on the decking near the back of the restaurant which provides a view of the pond behind Watergardens shopping centre.

While the inside seating comprises of polished tables and couches. A TV and a long bar/kitchen area complete the picture. There is also a little lounge near the entrance which appears to be a sporting lounge, a place where you can have a beer while watching the footy.

I visit Switch every few months and every time the menu changes. First is was just tweaking and now its a full blown new menu every time I visit. There has always been a diverse range of flavours. The choices range from pies, hamburgers, Indian and South East Asian dishes. Its nice that there is always something new but there has always been one constant. The crowning glory of the volcano.

Imagine two pizzas of your choosing, put together with their sunny side ups touching. The pizza crust is woven to weld the pizzas together. There is a little hole on the top pizza which becomes a bubble of cheesy tomato post baking; giving it the appearance of lava. An edible volcano model complete with lava and smoke.

Whilst cutting in, the steam accentuates the drama and revealing of the inner secrets of the volcano. The toppings beautifully model diamond crystals and lava that would still be under the volcano. This dish is a science experiment in itself.

The volcano was an off the menu item, something that was a bit of insider knowledge for those who were patrons in the early days. Upon my most recent visit I was shocked to discover that it was no longer available. The volcano not being available! I was astounded and literally speechless.

The waiter coldly responded in a deadpan voice with, 'we do calzones instead'. Why? Oh why? I don't want a calzone! I want a volcano! The volcano had become a favourite and the one constant in Switch's ever changing line up. It was the go to dish that my friends and I would order as a share dish. Do I even want to come to Switch anymore? Its lost its X factor.

Thankfully this mid-ordering crisis occurred after we had already picked our mains. I had chosen the soup of the day and the American Hustle Burger which I would not recommend ordering together unless you are exceptionally hungry.

The soup of the day was cream soup. Another instance of a soup main . It was not as creamy in a full on cream way as I thought it would be. The cream was toned down in favour of the vegetables however it was not a transparent soup. It was a creamy soup without the bloated feeling that often follows.

The American Hustle was served with chips in a hard cardboard box like that you would get fish and chips in at a pier. The burger had unfortunate fried onion rings as a garnish. The crunchy bun and the fillings made it a good hearty burger. The combination of the biting lettuce and onions gave an added crunch which complimented the beef patty.

Switch offers a constant change up in the menu and a modern dining space. However it won't ever be the same without the volcano. Bring back the volcano!

[SECTION]**Experience Summary:

Service – 4 stars; staff are generally nice however tend to ask for your order quite quickly, so be prepared to ask for more time.

Atmosphere – 4 stars; family friendly vibe.

Food – 4 stars; usually quite good, as the menu constantly changes you can't have a 'favourite'.

Uniqueness factor – the volcano, but as this is gone... **[/SECTION]
