Watch out City to Bay there is another fun run with a difference coming to Adelaide!
The Swisse Color Run is a 5km running/walking event like no other. As participants venture around the Victoria Park course they come across 'colour zones' where they are covered by colour, thrown by volunteers, sponsors and staff. The colour used is 100% natural and safe, with the event's website saying that 'you can eat the stuff if you'd like but we have tried it and don't suggest it, it is surprisingly high in calories and leaves a chalky aftertaste'. Of course organizers save the best for last, ending the race with a colour extravaganza of epic proportions. You start the run as a white canvas but are quickly transformed into a scene from Willy Wonka's chocolate factory.
Inspired in part by the Hindu Holi festival, with its tradition of welcoming Spring by throwing natural coloured powders, The Color Run began in the US (hence the spelling of 'color'). Now as it comes to Adelaide on May 19th 2013 it is your turn to be part of the phenomenon .
Color runners can be part of the festivities by registering on The Swisse Color Run website as individuals at $55, or register as a team of four or more at a discounted price of $50 each. Whilst this may seem a lot, this event is an opportunity not to be missed. Entry fee includes a white T-shirt, white sweatband, a race bib number, a color run temporary tattoo and a color powder packet for the Finish Festival.
Make sure that you buy your tickets as soon as possible as the Sydney, Melbourne and Perth runs sold out in a number of days. The Adelaide registration opens on the 21st of February from 9am.
Do we need to raise money on top of the registration fee you may ask? The answer is no as the event supports local health and wellness charities which will be announced at a later time.
There is no age limit but children 6 years and over will need to register and have a race bib. Parents can participate with jogging strollers and children 5 and under can run with an adult FREE of charge and do not need to register. Unfortunately there are no pets allowed (you could just image the fun they could have in this environment).
This is sure to be a colourful day for Adelaide, so be sure not to miss it!
