Swingin' Safari is more like something you would find in Melbourne, rather than on the fringe of Surfers Paradise.

This retro, bohemian gem has a warm, welcoming atmosphere and a history as colourful as the locals who frequent it.

Their website claims they are the longest standing licensed premises on the Coast, having originally been a beach house in the 50s, followed by a wine bar, then seafood restaurant in the 70s.

The venue has great outdoor seated areas for chatting with friends over a few cocktails, and a gorgeous porch area.

My favourite part of the experience involved donning the eccentric, retro costumes that were on offer.

Combine those with some great local acts and a nice-sized dance floor, and you'll be having a swingin' night out.

Food is available from 5.30pm to 11pm Wednesday to Sunday.
