Feel like you are in Paris, dining on the sidewalk
Set on the fashionable Coventry Street in South Melbourne, you will find Cafe Sweethearts cafe tucked away under the trees.

On weekends when the South Melbourne market is operating, you can wait for hours to get a table here, especially at peak breakfast or brunch times, however, at other times you may be lucky and be able to just walk straight in.

It is a relatively small cafe, although they have maximised the space inside and filled it with as many tables as possible creating quite a cosy atmosphere.

Outside there is a range of small tables and chairs on the sidewalk, which if the weather is pleasant is probably the most enjoyable place to dine.

They have a rather innovative menu with all your old favourites and then some interesting twists on them, like Mexican eggs with different salsas.

The day we went they were especially busy and I believe that all of the food we ordered would have been slightly better with one minute more cooking time. It would have been the difference between egg whites being clear or white and spinach being crunchy or sautéed.

However, with any restaurant, the food can definitely vary in quality from day to day, so perhaps when you visit they might just perfectly nail it.

The children chose a rather unique twist on porridge; they ordered chocolate porridge and it definitely tasted like chocolate.

Chocolate Porridge and Banana and Coconut Porridge.

They offer all the standard breakfast dishes and then a few interesting twists like grilled Scottish kippers on rye bread, served with lemon, tomatoes and fresh basil.

Perhaps you may prefer eggs avocado, which is a serving of poached eggs on toasted English muffins with grilled ham, avocado, Hollandaise sauce and fresh chives.

The staff were friendly and courteous.
