Have you ever been to Eudlo? Nope, me neither, so a visit was long overdue. Eudlo (pronounced you-d-lo) is a teeny, tiny historical timber town, established in 1892 on the Sunshine Coast, about five kilometres from Palmwoods. At the 2011 census Eudlo recorded a population of just over one thousand residents, so as you can see I'm not exaggerating about its size.

The reason for our visit was an impromptu lunch - thinking that we would drive around until we found something suitable. As we discovered, the driving around was not a necessity, as on entering Eudlo, we came across Sweethearts Cafe, which appeared to be extremely busy for a sleepy Saturday afternoon.

Hubby ordered a BLT (bacon, lettuce and tomato) for $12, whereas I was feeling very adventurous and went for the Veggie Burger which had everything: lettuce, tomato, cheese, basil pesto, beetroot and avo on a Turkish Roll, all for $13. We ordered Iced Lattes, which were served in practical tall insulated glasses.

Our food orders were taken at the counter before we found our outdoor spot and could sit back and enjoy the absolute peace and quiet of this quaint little town. One of my favourite pastimes, besides chatting (my hubby always says I chat to the baker, the butcher AND the candlestick maker, given half the chance) is to people watch. The other guests appeared to be an assortment of locals, who came to enjoy their newspapers whilst enjoying a cuppa and a slice of cake or explorers like ourselves, who just happened upon this picturesque little town.

Our lunch orders were delivered promptly and to say that my Veggie Burger was mouth-wateringly good just to look at, would be an understatement. It was beautifully presented and considering that I didn't have all the extra paraphernalia on the plate (i.e. fries and salad), I could see that this was going to prove a humungous task to take the first bite. I guess I should have asked for some cutlery when I requested the extra serviettes. But perhaps… this is the best way to eat a burger with all the juices running down one's chin? Our food was perfect…..tasty, fresh and with a multitude of savoury taste sensations that definitely tickled the taste buds.
