Sweet & Salty Fried Cakes Recipe (banh ran ngot va banh ran man)
There are two types of fried cake in this recipe - sweet and salty. The sweet cake is made from the green beans, coconut and sugar. The salty cake is made of a mixture of minced meat, mushrooms and onions. The cakes are then coated with glutinous flour, which is then fried until golden brown. The sweet cakes are usually round, while salty cake are shaped like an egg.
1. Sweet cake
Ingredients:
Outside:
200g glutinous flour
2 tablespoons rice flour
4 tablespoons of potato flour
2 tablespoons of cooking oil
220ml water
100g sugar
1 pinch of salt, vanilla
50g sesame
Inside:
- 150g green beans
- 30 g Sugar
- 1 pinch of salt
- 50g coconut
Roll:
- 50g sesame seeds
Directions:
Inside: Cook beans until softened. Mix with the sugar and coconut. Wait until mixture is cool. Divide into 16 pieces.
Outside: Mix the ingredients together with warm water (it should be quite thick) and refrigerate for about 30 minutes to 1 hour.
Coat the green bean mixture with the flour mixture.
Fry in pan with oil on an medium heat.
2. Salty cake
Inside:
- 120g minced pork
- 30 g Mushroom
- Onion, salt
Mixed the minced pork, mushroom and onion together, then add salt. Divide into 12 pieces.
Outside:
- 250g glutinous rice flour
- 50g glutinous rice flour
- 150g potato powder
- 30g sugar
- 5g salt
Mix the ingredients together with warm water (it should be quite thick) and refrigerate for about 30 minutes to 1 hour.
Coat the pork mixture with the flour mixture.
Fry in pan with oil on an medium heat.
