The term Swap Meet is used around the world for events such as flea markets and the like, however in Australia a Swap Meet has always been used to describe an automobile based event where all site holders come to buy swap or sell their car parts and vehicles. They are very popular events and draw large crowds. The biggest Swaps in Victoria are the February Ballarat Swap and the Bendigo Swap in November. Melbourne has many smaller ones at various suburbs.



At the majority of swap meets you will also find other items such as car restoration supplies and parts, collectables, old stuff out of the shed, camping gear, kids toys and bikes, motorcycles. I always manage to find some sort of junk I can't live without. Sometimes a few market type stall are allowed to sneak in, however most swap meets will have a vehicle focus.

This list is of the current Swaps in Victoria over the Autumn. You will need to check the websites of each swap to check on any further information or if you want to have a site. Some of the smaller swaps will not have a website.

MY TIPS FOR ATTENDING A SWAP MEET.
Get up early to get a park as gates open early at 6.30 or 7am. Some go for 2 days but most are one day only. Most of the action and all the best items for sale, usually is over by lunch time. Take some sort of bag to put your purchases in, and take lots of small change. My friend and I take a shopping trolley as we usually get too much to carry. All swaps will have a heavy items delivery service available. Take a rain jacket just in case and wear comfortable shoes a they are held on large areas so there is lots of walking. Plenty to eat and drink there and some do an early breakfast cook up.
