If you are looking for something to do near Perth, the Swan Valley is located 25 minutes away from Perth city. It is where you will find beautiful vineyards, unique wineries and many attractive restaurants. Click here to find information about wineries and restaurants before you get there. We decided to take the kids with us on Sunday afternoon, to look for a good lunch and wine spot. The first stop we decided to try was Carilley Estate Winery & Restaurant.
A very nice set up with the beautiful restaurant overlooking the vineyard. Our children entertained themselves in the outdoor playground and courtyard area, while we enjoyed ourselves in the wine tasting area.
The food was delicious, we love their fresh fish of the day and their soup of the day. Our children loved their mini burger and chips and for $4 per plate, you can't beat the price of their children's menu. Excellent service, great wine tasting, very impressive wine selection. Of course we bought home a couple bottles of their reserve.
Next stop on Hyem Road. We stopped at Talijancich Wines, a small winery which is famous for verdelho, shiraz and fortifieds. We found an incredible shiraz reserve here.
To make it fun for the kids, our next stop was Oggies Ice Cream Cafe - it has great playground with a lot of toys for kids to play and run around. The kids enjoyed their selection of homemade ice cream. We noticed a popular lunch place next door to Oggies called Madhatters on Milston. It is a nice restaurant overlooking their beautiful garden. It must be really yummy because we couldn't find a place to park there and did not see one table available. We did go inside to check out their lovely and peaceful garden and their wonderful menu. It will be on our list for next visit.
We visited Margaret River Chocolate Factory to taste some chocolate and have our coffee and dessert. What a fun place to shop and look around. Our children enjoyed watching chocolate being prepared and made through the showroom.
There are so much to see and to do along this wine trail. We saw put put golf, horse back riding, animal farm and reptile farm. We spotted Black Swan, a beautiful winery and vineyard. It has a well decorated restaurant overlooking the Swan Valley and it's own vineyard with live music on Sunday. We went in for tasting while the kids plays with some horses outside the winery.
Last stop we checked out a bigger winery - Sandalford. A beautiful landscape, great place for pictures, a lot of space for children to run around. You can take a tour of wine making here with advance booking. Nice tasting room with gift shop and incredible view of the vineyard from its restaurant.
We had so much fun in Swan Valley, I can not wait to go back. What an enjoyable afternoon for everyone in my family, the best thing is it's only a short ride back home for us, just in time for our afternoon nap after all that good food and great wine.
