In the year 1827 Captain James Stirling camped in a beautiful valley and imagined a new settlement. The land became the Swan River Colony and in 1841 a church was built near Stirling's vantage point. The colony is now Western Australia and the church is still in use 175 years later. Home to a thriving Anglican congregation, All Saints Church is also the oldest church in WA and an important part of the state's heritage, attracting many visitors. One of the best times to explore this fascinating landmark is during the Swan Parish Spring Community Fete on Saturday 8 October.

The free guided tours of the church and grounds are one of the fete's main attractions. In the graveyard visitors will see familiar family names from WA history, some of whose descendants still live nearby. The surrounding farms and vineyards plus the beautiful river views add to the feeling of tranquillity and the sense of history.

After the tour, there will be plenty of time to enjoy a Devonshire tea or sausage sizzle and browse the stalls. There will be cakes, preserves, books, plants and more plus entertainment throughout the day.

The fete also features plenty of activities for children including face painting, crafts, games and Bunnings workshops.

Don't miss this chance to enjoy all the fun of a fete in a unique historical setting.
