[ADVERT]A good family picnic spot needs plenty of grassy areas, plenty of shade and plenty of stuff for the kids to do. And if it's on the shores of a peaceful waterway, even better.

in Grays Point is a lovely spot for a quiet family picnic. Nestled on the banks of the Port Hacking River, this peaceful reserve is a popular spot for weekend picnickers.

There's space for the kids to run around on the grass, while ample shade means you can stay out of the sun on a hot day. Energetic youngsters can try their hand at crafting sandcastles and even cool down with a swim.

Picnic tables offer a spot to sit down for lunch, while electric barbecues are also available if you're craving a sausage sanga or three. Ample parking spaces and public toilets make the reserve even more practical to visit.

If you're a keen fisho, you can get your boat out on the water at the Swallow Rock boat ramp. Bream and flathead are appparently the fish most commonly caught in the area, and you can even just cast a line from the river's edge. The reserve is also a good spot to launch a kayak or canoe if you'd like to go exploring along the river.
