Peaceful and leafy family park in Chatswood
Despite what the name would suggest, Sutherland Park is actually found in Chatswood on Sydney's north shore. With a great kids' playground, exercise equipment and a peaceful garden setting, this great little park is well worth visiting.
Located less than 100 metres away from the Pacific Highway on Sutherland Road, Sutherland Park is a small patch of green surrounded by high-rise apartments. The park's best attraction is the modern kids' playground, always a popular spot for the locals to let their kids run off some energy.
The playground features a double swing, a spinner, two spring rockers and a spiral slide. There's also an open grassy area for a family game of soccer or cricket, space for running about or simply spreading out a picnic rug.
Paths running through the park form a circuit around the edge, and this can be used as a children's trike track. Picnic settings and bench seating can be found throughout the park, plus there are barbecues on offer if you feel like indulging in a sausage sanga or three.
An exercise station sits next to the playground and features a grouping of exercise facilities constructed using recycled material. The equipment also has safe use instructions for warm up, stretching, muscle development, cardivascular fitness and cooling down. The nearby bubbler also comes in handy for exhausted fitness fanatics.
Another feature of the park is its plant life. Tall trees provide welcome shade in the summer months, while landscape improvement work conducted in 2009 saw the inclusion of more durable inderstorey plants.
