I have one criteria when judging sushi trains. It is this: Does the sight of the plates passing by you on the train grip you with overwhelming excitement, mixed with an immense sense of regret you know you won't be able to fit in more than three? Or are you sitting there eyeing off unappetising balls of gluggy rice and tired chicken, reflecting glumly that at least you might get a couple of days off work when the food poisoning hits?

When I am at Sushi Moto, I am completely overwhelmed and excited. Staring with intense concentration at the array of delightful foods before my eyes, which I am just about to have in my mouth. The exact facial expression you see on a Labrador watching as his Chum tin is being opened and poured into his doggie bowl. It makes me wish I was the size of Drew Carey, so I could fit twenty plates in.

All the sushi train staples are there – miso soup, edamame beans, steamed dim sims, sashimi. I lied before. I have a second criteria when it comes to judging sushi trains. Is the salmon fresh? Yes, it is. But the thing that really excites me about Sushi Moto are the rice paper rolls. Healthier than sushi due to the lack of carby rice, they also take up less room. With the help of rice paper, I have been known to fit in four plates.

Wednesday is $3 plate day. Well worth the inevitable line up. Shhh, I shouldn't even have mentioned that. This website is not called weekdaynotes.com. But I'm just saying.

The best thing about a sushi train is that you can walk in and just start eating. But that creates the danger of going in too hard and making choices you may rue later on in the meal. Don't rush in and settle for the first thing that looks good, because you never know what awesomeness may be choofing around the corner towards you. This principle could be said to apply in life as well.

At Sushi Moto, it is especially hard, because everything looks good, but check yourself before you wreck yourself and give it a round of the train before you get in there and start lifting plates. If you see me with my Labrador eyes on a plate of rice paper rolls, I would advise you not to lift that plate no matter how good it looks, because I'll bite you.
