Newly opened in the City Cross Food Court located in Adelaide city, offers a good range of Japanese dishes. A good number of the dishes are "don" style dishes, which consists of a chosen ingredient served on top of rice in a bowl, making it an ideal meal for one.

Their Tempura Prawn Don had a surprisingly generous amount of ingredients - prawns, crab sticks, squid and various vegetables tempura. All the seafood was cooked just right with the golden brown coating acting as a good contrast. As expected the dish came with tentsuyu, the sauce associated with tempura, which the ingredients can be dipped in to liven up their flavour.

For a dish that is supposed to be an entrée sized dish, the portion size of the Agedashi Tofu was enough to be shared with a friend. The tofu had the degree of softness we desired with a bit of crispiness from the coating. The sauce really contributed to the enjoyment of the dish, providing the unami flavour to bring out the flavour of the tofu.

Another of the "don" dishes available, the slices of beef in their Yakiniku Beef Don were cooked just right with the vegetables having the right degree of bite to them. While we liked the taste of the dish, we weren't sure about its authenticity as the main ingredient of this dish wasn't the grilled beef that we expected.

While we thought the Okonomiyaki was a bit over-priced for a dish of its size, it still was fried to golden brown with enough cabbage to give it the texture that we expected from the dish. The topping of okonomiyaki sauce and Japanese mayonnaise brought everything together.

When you purchase a meal at Sushi Ya, you can choose to sit either at the exclusive tables around the stall or at one of the seats in the general food court area. Parking is of no issue with the nearby U Park offering plenty of off-street parking and a nearby bus stop giving the option of getting there by public transport. Sushi Ya is a good place to stop by for a snack or a proper meal while shopping at Rundle Mall.
