Personally, I don't like having to choose things, so I've only gone to a sushi train restaurant once. I decided to break that drought recently, and went to Sushi Rio, which is conveniently located at the intersection between Sussex and Liverpool St in the Sydney CBD.

My group of friends and I were immediately greeted by numerous staff members with their welcoming remarks in Japanese, which was added by the Jazz music in the background and the sight of sushi masters preparing sushi right in front of you.

My friend and I decided to share all of our plates. We sat down on one of the tables on the side, and order 5 things off the menu (2 Nigiri , 2 rolls and a maki ). You simply write the quantity of the particular dish you'd like to order on a sheet of paper, and give it to one of their waitresses. Unfortunately, we'd obliterated our food without taking a photo, but I will remember to do so next time.

A downside was my inability to speak and understand Japanese. Whenever a waitress put a plate on my table, she would say in Japanese what the dish was, so my friend and I had accidentally eaten a dish that somebody else ordered, which turned out to be our favourite dish of the night, but we couldn't order it again. We kept pointing at various pictures on the menu, trying to guess what it was, and even had a waitress come over to help us. After about 10 minutes of her hard-thinking and our hopeless descriptions of the dish, we realised that we all had no idea what we ate. She did however offer us a special dish (off-menu) to be made from our description, which was delivered by the sushi master himself who made the dish.

We also took 2 more dishes from the conveyor belt (Japanese sausages and sweet chili chicken rolls), which meant our meal added up to $24 altogether for the two of us. (Plates are only $3 each, or there are "special" dishes for $6)

Sushi Rio offers a great location, good value and great quality authentic sushi, amazing customer service displayed by the dedicated waiters, waitresses and sushi masters. Although, there is usually a line during peak hours.
