I'm going out on a limb here to say that is the best Japanese takeaway on Gold Coast. I know people will dispute this, because everyone has their favourite sushi restaurant, but this one definitely stands out from the crowd.

Firstly, it's in an unassuming shop inside the Homeworld Centre, Helensvale, on Hope Island Road. In this remarkably good home centre, Sushi Rice Bowl is not pretentious. It's sits quietly with little tables and chairs outside inviting diners to come in.

Once inside, it feels really authentic. I've travelled quite a bit in Japan, and back in Australia I'm constantly looking for good Japanese takeaway in a cafe or restaurant package that feels right. Sushi Rice Bowl is a little hole in the wall restaurant, with hanging material out front which gives it an unassuming appearance, and friendly staff who are only to eager to assist. The mood lighting is darker than the day outside, and feels private and genuine.

Now for the food. Rice bowl meals from $11.80 such as karaage chicken don and teriyaki salmon don, amazing ramen noodles from $11.80, udon and soba noodles from $7.80 such as bukkake curry udon - they all never disappoint. The bento boxes range from yakiniku BBQ beef box to teriyaki to tempura (vege and prawn) from $17.80.

Sushi Rice Bowl does an amazing a la carte menu. Gyozas, spring rolls, soft shell crab, edamame soy beans and all of the variety of sushi you could ask for.

A point of difference is the servings here. Rather than the standard 2 or 3 serves, the serves are usually 5 pieces giving amazing value.

Party platters are available from $44.50.

The food tastes amazing and the sushi takeaway is noted with the time of packing giving confidence as to the freshness.

If you're coming home from a day at the coast, this little restaurant is so close to the highway, it's a welcome dinner takeaway stopover on your way through.
