As I mentioned in my article on the Sushi Train at Carseldine, I am what you might call an amateur in sushi eating. While others may like raw squid, raw salmon and caviar sushi, I prefer to stick to what I know and revel in the more conservative chicken, avocado and cucumber types of this popular Japanese cuisine.
Sushi D'Lite at Chermside caters for both types of sushi eaters; the exotic and the conservative. Here are some suggestions as to what you can buy/try:
Tuna Roll Tuna and Avocado Roll Egg Roll Fillet o' Fish Roll
Crumbed Prawn Roll Fried Prawn Roll
Tempura Prawn Roll
Prawn and Avocado Roll
Smoked Salmon and Avocado Roll
Fresh Salmon Roll
Sukiyaki Beef Roll
Crumbed Pork Roll
Crispy Chicken Roll
Crumbed Chicken Roll
Chicken and Avocado Roll
Teriyaki Chicken Roll
My absolute favourite roll is the chicken and avocado. Sushi D'Lite is the only sushi place I know of that wraps the chicken and avocado rolls with creamy mayonnaise. Usually, sushi bars provide sauces and mayonnaise for dipping but, with the mayonnaise already wrapped up in the mix, this roll tastes all the better for it. The chicken on this roll is always cooked well but remains soft, the rice is al dente and the avocado is ripe. The mayonnaise brings all ingredients together into creamy goodness. For only $2.20 a roll this sushi is divine.
Apart from the chicken avocado, I also enjoy the crispy chicken, crumbed chicken, crumbed pork and plain avocado rolls. Soy sauce is available at the counter. Sushi D'Lite also makes traditional Japanese soups like Wanton Soup and sells sweet Pokka ice tea (lychee, peach, lemon, mango and blueberry) which I enjoy. The usual 600ml soft drinks are also available for purchase behind the counter.
Chicken and Avocado Rolls from Sushi D'Lite @ Chermside
Sushi D'lite at Chermside is located within Westfield Shopping Centre on the corner of the busy intersection crossing Gympie and Hamilton Roads. Sushi D'Lite occupies a centre kiosk near Kmart and is quite a busy little sushi bar, with many of the more popular sushi rolls selling out by lunch time and again at closing. Sushi D'Lite is open during Westfield's normal business hours.
