Local artist Andrew Baines is passionate about surrealism. I love his quirky paintings, which invariably force me to look twice to confirm what I have just seen.

His latest solo exhibition of paintings opens March 18 at the BMG Art gallery in Marleston. Celebrating Andrew's 20 years as a full-time artist, the exhibition is titled ''. This exhibition is a retrospective of his surrealist work. Also on display will be a folder containing much of the background work and sketches for his popular surreal photo shoots and paintings.

Andrew commented: "From the age of 21 I began my own micro business called Baines Graphics, where I produced murals and signage for small local business. Thirty years down the track, I'm now a full-time artist exhibiting my work globally with collections including ANZ Bank Singapore, Australian Embassy in Rome, Government House SA, United Nation Association of Australia. I've been included in a German encyclopaedia of surrealist art and recently a Portuguese book on surrealist art."
