[ADVERT]Located in Annandale, this cosy restaurant screams good food, friendly staff and cricket. We chose a weekday to try Surjit's Indian Restaurant and were pleasantly surprised to see than restaurant more than 75% full. Surjit the owner himself welcomed us and made sure we were attended to immediately.
As soon as we took a seat came some poppadums and a generous serving of a mint and coriander dip. The menu has lots to choose from. The tandoori paneer entree is made of fresh and soft paneer (cottage cheese), something I would surely recommend.
You can spoil yourself with a beef vindaloo or chicken Korma with a lush and slightly sweet roast-cashew sauce. Okra is their seasonal special which is quite a treat. You can also try one of the two banquets which are well priced; Rasan's banquet (named after Surjit's son) or a more grand Surjit's banquet.
Surjit himself is a big fan of the game cricket. Having moved to Australia 33 years ago, he has been around for long and is very popular among Australians and Indians alike.
The Indian and Australian cricket team always stops by there when they are playing in Sydney. One wall in the restaurant has been been adorned by a collection of autographed material by all the cricket players who have visited the restaurant.
You can browse through the autograph book that has been displayed too.
