The day is being held by the Sunshine Coast branch of the Surfrider Foundation Australia, a non-profit organisation dedicated to the protection of waves and beaches. The day is all about creating awareness for the environment through sustainable initiatives especially Surfrider's Rise Above Plastic campaign. It's all about reducing the impacts of plastic in the marine environment by raising awareness about the dangers of plastic pollution.

The Wooden Surfboard challenge is sure to be a one the local surfers will be dying to take up. Bring your board down and join in the paddle out with a lot of like minded people. Codfish Wooden Surfboards will also be donating a board to raffle off on the day. Those who are really up for a challenge can take on current Alaia World Champion Fred Banger. For those who don't know an Alaia is a thin, round-nosed square-tailed surfboard ridden in pre-20th century Hawaii - so best of luck to you.

Other highlights for the day include the skate competition, the eco workshops with Marc Bright AKA Rainbow Man and some interactive arts lead by Rhythm Culture.
