I decided at the ripe age of 51 to get a surf board and throw myself into learning to stand on a 7 ft foam, kiddie board - much to the shame of my kids, who can all surf.
We (my 15 yr old daughter and her surfing buddy) loaded the boards onto the newly acquired roof racks, a present from my husband catering to another of his wife's idiosyncrasies and headed up to Noosa Head lands. The journey from Beachmere takes about 1.22 minutes.
The waves are perfect between the Cove and Noosa's main beach for long boards and a good starting point for someone like me and entertainment for the girls who spent happy and productive time on their boards, standing and doing themselves proud in the popular little huddle of surfers. Every now and then they would paddle back to me in the shallows, making sure I haven't done any damage to myself. I did manage to stand on my knees, but spent most of the time under the water trying to get my body to do what my head wanted.
Later, as I sat on the rocks and watched the girls surfing, daylight began to fade and two dolphins frolicked in the sunset, I pondered on the lightness of my heart and the perfect moment in time.
