Fun Free Fabulous Festival
I don't think I have ever lived anywhere in the world that has as many free events throughout the year. The Gold Coast seems to have some free family fun most weekends, I guess that's the beauty of having good weather all year round.
The Surfers Paradise Festival is now in its 6th year and it gets bigger and better each year, this year it kicks off on Friday 3 April and runs until 18 April so there are plenty of chances to experience some free entertainment, especially over the long Easter weekend.
This relaxed and all inclusive festival celebrates food, art, culture, dance, music, film and entertainment - it boasts an action-packed program of events guaranteed to suit the whole family. Plus because it's on for a couple of weeks - which includes a bank holiday - even those with a busy schedule will be able to catch some events and find time to enjoy
For two weeks across the whole of Surfers Paradise from the beach front to Chevron Renaissance and Cavill Mall, there is just a tonne of entertainment, competitions and activities on each day. There will be dance completions, cooking demonstrations, film screenings, fashion shows, music classes - loads of stuff to get involved in and learn a new skill.
Those that are regulars to the event will see the return of some favourite events such as the Australian Street Entertainment Championships (ASEC), together with some new events and activities.
The Australian Street Entertainment Championships (ASEC)
Friday 3 April - Monday 6 April at Beach Foreshore & Cavill Mall
This vibrant competition will be held held over the Easter long weekend from Friday April 3 through to the grand finale, which takes place on Monday April 6. The street performers offer up a variety of inventive entertainment where you can see feature acts such as the death-defying Wheel Of Danger with nail-biting stunts, hypnosis with Wayne Donnelly, world music with Tribal Grove, as well as the current World Champions, The English Gents, with their unique combination of acrobatic comedy.
Thursday 9 April - Saturday 18 April at Surfers Paradise Beach
This is new for 2015 and will feature more acts and entertainment than you can shake a stick at. There will be acrobatics, illusions, workshops in music and photography, theatre, shows, talks, kids shows, plus there will be a fierce dance competition called Step Up Surfers Paradise. Loads of free stuff for all ages over 10 years old.
Sunday 12 April 6:30pm - 9:30pm at Festival Pavilion
Shorts in Paradise is the Gold Coast' biggest short film festival and it is back as part of the Gold Coast Film Festival (GCFF) and Surfers Paradise Festival.
For the first time at Surfers Paradise this is an amazing opportunity to identify and reward talented emerging filmmakers both locally and from around Australia. Expect thrillers, comedies, dramas, documentaries and animations, who will win this years coveted title?
For those with a passion for pyrotechnics - this thrilling competition sets two teams of the nations best pyros against each other in what can only be described as a "firework off". Watch fireworks light up the sky over Surfers Beach, set to awesome beats and concluding in an incredible jet ski show. What an amazing way to end the festival.
A truly amazing and FREE festival which showcases the best of local and Australian talent, bringing people together to celebrate art and culture on the Gold Coast. Don't miss out. There are also some additional supporting events - as if the line up wasn't full enough - including Chevron Illustrated, Koalas in Paradise, Glow and Women in Film Lunch.
