Come By and Say Hi
In a suburban shopping centre, nestled amongst stately homes is a little cafe called Surface Café. Surfacing approximately 6 years ago, Surface Café (located at 365A Kensington Road, Kensington Gardens) is the inspiration of Chef and owner Rohan, who prefers to be known as a cook who provides nourishing food for the soul; all prepared with the freshest ingredients and an abundance of love. With his team, Rohan has developed a strong community following and he loves the meeting place feel of the cafe.
Surface Café's menu is filled with wonderfully nourishing goodness and caters for all dietary needs. Choose from traditional pancakes and granola's to corn zucchini fritters, bruschetta and smashed avocado on toast. Or simply enjoy one of Rohan's fantastic homemade soups (or salads in summer). Surface Café's menu departs from the traditional café menu in a delightful, homemade and nourishing way that makes you want to come back for more.
With nearly all food prepared on-site without additives or preservatives, this is a great way to have a home-cooked style meal prepared with care and attention without having to do the cooking! There is also a wide range of drinks available including traditional teas and coffees or smoothies and milkshakes.
On my recent visit as an invited guest, we started with some amazing coffee's, which were quickly followed up with a luscious chicken and vegetable soup with gluten-free toast for me and a BLT with egg for hubby. My soup was genuine food for the soul, flavoursome and wholesome with generous amounts of chicken and vegetables all within a lovely broth.
Hubby's BLT with egg was a derivative of the menu's BLT which Rohan was more than happy to adapt. Hubby enjoyed his BLT so much, we didn't hear a word from him during the meal, after which he described his sandwich as tasty and filling and he particularly liked the homemade tomato relish.

While there is a large range of sweet treats available, we followed our meal with a gluten-free blondie, that had a lovely caramel flavour while being soft and delicious, and a macadamia biscuit.
Rohan's team are a delightful bunch who work well together, showing efficiency and effectiveness while being friendly and helpful. The service was outstanding and far better than I have experienced in some very high-end restaurants. Many of the team have been working with Rohan at Surface Café for many years and how much they love their work is evident.

Surface Café's wonderful, homely atmosphere is enhanced with the abundance of aboriginal art adorning the walls. The art is changed regularly and all are available for purchase.
Surface Café is open from 7 am to 5 pm Monday to Saturday, but if you don't have time to sit in and eat, don't despair, there is a wide range of takeaway meals and goodies available. We came home with a lovely, large sausage roll which hubby described as exquisite.
Whether you are nearby or have a little to travel, find your way to Surface Café soon. This is one café that has to be on your regular coffee, breakfast, lunch list. Make this your go-to meeting place with friends and family.
