SurfAid is a non-profit humanitarian organisation. The aim of this organisation is to greatly improve the health and well-being of people and communities in remote geographical locations, who are all connected through surfing. SurfAid helps to prevent disease, suffering and early death by their educational programs aimed at empowering people. They do this in partnership with the communities and the government. The first competition was held in 2011 and since then, it has grown to include four events in Australia and three in the US.
The event has received support from some of surfing's most recognised names. They include the following:
Mark "Occy" Occhilupo
Anyone familiar with surfing will recognize many of these names as the greats in surfing.
Last year, the is event raised a massive $250,000 and it is hoped to at least equal this for 2018! So far they have raised more than $33,000 for this very important work. You can donate, and support a team and you can pick who you want this to go to, by clicking here.
You can also create your own page by clicking on this link.
Currently, the group who have raised the most money is Belle Property in Manly. They created this page because they want to make a difference. They are influenced by the work that SurfAid is doing and wanted to support them by raising money as part of SurfAid Cup Manly 2018.
The more people that know something about SurfAid, the larger will be the impact.
How you can help
Form a Team – get 3 of your mates and spend the day surfing and saving lives. Corporate or Individual teams are welcome.
Surf as an Individual - if you can't find 3 friends to surf with, then surf as an independent on a mixed team.
Soul Surf – if you are not able to surf, but still want to make an impact, then you can raise funds for SurfAid.
Volunteer – you can show your support by helping out on the beach
The SurfAid Cup raises money for SurfAid's lifesaving interventions in remote communities in Indonesia.
SurAid helps to improve access to clean water and sanitation, as well as basic healthcare and nutrition. Since its inception, SurfAid has dramatically reduced maternal and child deaths near the places where many of us love to surf.
