Celebrate all things pop culture this June
If you're a comic book or anime fan, a superhero or
sci fi movie buff, you won't want to miss this premier expo celebrating everything pop culture. Running in Sydney on 16-18 June, the event will be held at the aptly named venue, The Dome, at Sydney Olympic Park.

Aimed for all ages, there will be displays and shows for both kids and adults. The kids will enjoy the Power Rangers show and wrestling stunts while the adults peruse the collectables and watch the speaker panels. There will be plenty of stalls to explore, celebrities to meet and comics to read at this year's Supanova!

Celebrity sightings and signings
A host of television and movie stars, authors and artists will make appearances. TV's favourite Superman and host of Ripley's Believe It or Not!, Dean Cain, has been named for the Sydney expo. Other stars include Julie Benz from Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Dexter, and Christopher Judge from X-Men: Evolution and Stargate SG-1.

But the biggest name will most certainly be Christopher Lloyd (pictured). The husky-voiced veteran has starred in movies such as Adams Family as Uncle Fester, Dennis the Menace as Switchblade Sam and the indelible Doc Brown from the Back to the Future franchise. You can see Christopher at the Q&As during the expo.

More celebrities have been announced to be attending Supanova in Sydney to fill out the star studded event. Teri Hatcher will now join Dean Cain to make the expo super special. Actors from the popular TV shows The 100 and The Walking Dead will also appear. And if you're brave enough, you can even get up close to The Wolf Creek's John Jarratt. But I've left the best to last...Chris Hemsworth (aka Thor) will be gracing us with his godly presence. It is sure to make the expo one of the best yet!!

Celebrities will be signing autographs and taking photos with fans for a fee. Tickets for signings are available to purchase in advance or on the day. To avoid disappointment, I recommend purchasing early. View all guest stars on the Supanova website: www.supanova.com.au

Creative hub: Imagineer's Playground
If you're interested in how television shows and movies bring otherworldly stories to life, you will find the Imagineer's Playground a source of great knowledge and inspiration. How much detail goes into the costume design? How long does it take a makeup artist to transform someone from human to goblin? Find out the answers and watch demonstrations to uncover these mysteries and tap into your inner artist!

Cosplay competition
Madman will be hosting a competition to entice cosplay fans to don their capes, wings and antennas to morph into their favourite characters. Vouchers will be up for grabs to win in a range of categories including Best Performance, Best Group and Best in Show. Many people who dress up for the event are happy to have their photos taken (upon request) so it's a good idea to bring along your camera for a snap with the likes of Freddy Kruger, the Ninja Turtles and the Justice League. The incredible detail and effort that many people put into their alter ego disguise will have you spellbound!

Parent's survival guide
For parents who plan to experience Supanova for the first time,
here are some handy tips:
  • Some of the popular displays/areas will be busy, so prepare your kids for the expectation they may need to wait a little while

  • Getting a snack or comic book before joining the waiting line will make the time go much quicker

  • If you're planning to divide and conquer the expo, choose a central spot to meet up

  • It is inevitable that your kids will want to buy something with so many unique and exciting things on display. Set a spending limit so they don't get disappointed when you tell them no to the life-sized Chewbacca

There will be heaps more on offer so it is best to plan at least a few hours to explore the whole expo and watch the shows and workshops. Be prepared for a long queue if you want to arrive around the start times on each day. Nothing that a Star Wars light sabre cosplay 'fight' can't fix!
