This outdoors activity that blends watersports with puppies proves that every dog really does have its day.
Stand up paddleboarding, or SUP, is an easy entry activity for anyone who likes to get out on the water. As the name would suggest, it involves standing up on a long surfboard and paddling with an oar. While it's easy to master, it also provides a great workout under the sun.
SUP is one of the classes offered by Surf Connect, a watersports school accredited by the National Surf Schools and Instructors Association. Group or private lessons are available seven days a week at Sandgate, where lucky students have shared the waters with dolphins, stringrays and dugongs.
If a day out on the water doesn't sound good enough, what if I told you that you can bring your dog? Surf Connect offers a SUP Pup option for proud pooch parents with assistance from your instructor to ensure your puppy has the best time. Please note: dogs must be under 30 kilograms.
Stand up paddleboard lessons start at $75 for a group lesson, with an extra $20 surcharge for pups. Surf Connect also offers kitesurfing, windsurfing, kayaking and wakeboarding, as well as equipment hire.
Bookings can be made online or by calling (07) 3137 0500.
